The Florida Sportsmen’s Conservation Association (FSCA) as built another airboat built from scratch by area Gladesmen. The last boat was raffled off in 1997. This one is a Palm Beach styled airboat and is a little smaller than the last on built. This is a mini airboat you might say FSCA is going a little green in their old age. The hull is 6’6” wide and 11’ long deep-sided open Hull with a Continental 4A084 that has a belt drive reduction unit. It’s a rear seat driver for weight reasons, but it will have a seat for a passenger. Of course it will have an outlaw single airfoil ruder, that goes without saying. This little Airboat is definitely one-of-a-kind and not your average cookie-cutter style boat, when you see it you’ll know it’s a Palm Beach style Airboat with all of work provided by craftsmen. This is the type of boat that was run back in the early 60s with little higher sides, which gives it more room for error. Back in the heyday a 65-horse power motor was considered a big block in this type of hull was commonly used. FSCA has turned a 1970 version airboat into the 2010 era with more commonly used parts but still keep the traditional hard-core Palm Beach style look. Whoever wins this boat will have won a personal built, one of the kind airboat and should feel like it was built for them.
This is a custom built airboat and when you see it you will know that Gladesmen were involved with this distinguished one-of-a-kind look. The EMT is braised not welded, the willow guards and seat structure has the old school looks including the seats themselves right down to the peanut screws in the wood. Yes it has a single airfoil ruder and if you’re ever wondering what an outlaw ruder really is, look at this one closely. You may understand a little more. We also kept to the wooden style prop thanks to Sensenich for custom making us the prop we need. The fuel tank, ruder, motor stand, grass rake and custom built trailer which fits like a glove to match the look by following the mini style airboat look.
FSCA members took time out of their busy schedules because they’re trying to do their part and raise money to fight for our heritage. They are looking forward to selling some tickets. Of the money raised from this Mini boat 25% will go to FAA and 75% will towards FSCA projects. FSCA has always supported and contributed to FAA because they are protecting your airboating heritage. FSCA members have representation at nearly every government agency meeting in the State of Florida, which is a job in itself. FSCA is the sponsor of several yearly events such as JW Corbett WMA cleanup, Youth Camp clean up, Youth Day, Youth Hunting Program of Florida, Alligator kickoff party, South Florida Fair you will even find their members helping other clubs with their projects. They are heavily involved in FAA projects along with the Youth Hunting program of Florida. It’s awesome to see a bunch of Gladesmen working on one proud project to protecting our heritage and finding a way to raise money to do so, not to mention the good times and, camaraderie building this beautiful Palm Beach Cracker Airboat. So come out and purchase tickets when it comes to a location near you as it travels through the state of Florida on a mission to protect your Heritage.

If you have not heard the big news yet, I’m here to tell you we are building a mini airboat. Things are moving along great – thanks to general Sheet Metal. Because the boat is a little different than your average Palm Beach style 12’ hull we needed to bring in a couple of old-timers to pick their brains and help lay it out. They remember back in time how to build an 11’ by 6’6” which they used to run west of town in the marsh back in the early 60’s. We made a template out of cardboard to see how the boat was going to look. After deciding what we were looking for we went to town building the hull.
We would like to thank Airboat Pro for the power plant they provided at a discounted price. Continental 084 that has a belt drive reduction unit
